Comcast Late Charges

Written by Debbie on August 8th, 2009 in Articles.

It never fails to amaze me the little things companies do in getting extra money. In a time of rough economic times, people out of work and the economy in general really poor Comcast feels the need to up their late charges.

With income so hard to bring in and trying to keep a roof over your head and food on the table you are charged outrageous fees because you are late on a payment. I understand companies have a right to charge late fees when we fall behind and do not keep up with payments. I do what I can to keep my bills paid as my income allows. I was paying bills today and yes I was behind, I looked at my bill and my jaw dropped at the late fee of $7.00!!!

In January of 2008 the late fee was $5.00 now in 2009 when people need every little dime they can get Comcast feels it needs to charge a $7.00 late fee.

I guess they feel if they keep increasing it people will pay on time, but if the money is not there, you can not pay.

Lets do some math. Comcast has millions of customers. Lets take 500 of them that are late and add $7.00

500×7.00 = 3500 mind you that is just 500 people. With millions struggling there is most likely more than that. So to apply a payment to an account that is computer generated Comcast is making a nice little profit.

Forgive me if I fail to see how it costs Comcast $7.00 for a click of a mouse to apply a payment that is late.

Again they are entitled to charge a late charge, but how about being more realistic. To me $3.00 is more than fair.

The extra $7.00 we are charged could put gas in the car, buy milk, bread and cereal for the family table.

Why do they charge such a high amount? Because they can, it is a money game. You pay what they bill you or your service is turned off.

So in the rising unemployment, people looking for work, a loss of a quarter of a million jobs I would say

Comcast Cares.
