What is the purpose of a business?

Written by Debbie on December 26th, 2008 in Business.

The other day I signed up with some business sites I found through my Linkedin account. Today I was browsing the emails that arrived in my inbox and following the links. I followed some links to a website address of http://www.chainetwork.net  There were some videos that caught my interest. I clicked on the one called Lesson 01 Web Life. I was watching the gentelman talk and as he got more into his subject he referenced a book call the Essential Drucker. In reading a page from this book “He asked…What is the purpose of a business”. Some would say to make money. The correct answer is to create a customer. I found this very interestng. It made me stop and think on how to market my business this coming 2009. Instead of thinking of ways to make money think of ways to create new customers. When you provide a service a customer can use you get new customers, they are the ones who will grow your business and help it to profit.

Another topic he mentioned was “SWOT” which means to evaluate the “Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats” of a business. Think I will go do some research on SWOT for the businesses that provide the same service I do.

If you would like to watch the video I have included it below.
